Leisure Development Course 2023
During the first week in June, our group of students representing all parts of BC and Calgary AB, along with our instruction team, gathered at the Vance Creek Hotel & Conference Centre on Silver Star Mountain to participate in the professional development learning opportunity presented by the Leisure Development Course. In 2023 the Year One Track, Community Development - the students focused on sessions involving: Developing & Using Motivationa Skills; Marketing Your Agency; Outcome Based Management; and Community Programming & Special Events - topics essential to personal and professional success as well as enhancing the effectiveness of the individual's respective agency or organization. In 2024 the Leisure Development Course will be held June 5th - 9th at Vance Creek Hotel & Confereence Centre.

Developing Motivational Skills
Motivational needs are found to varying degrees in all workers and managers, and this mix of needs characterizes a person’s or manager’s style and behavior, both in terms of being motivated, and in the management and motivation of others. This session will discuss motivation performance behaviors that result in strong employees and agencies.

Community Programming & Special Events
This session will discuss methodologies, skills, and materials needed for designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating recreation programs for diverse populations in multiple community settings. Optimizing the service value of programs, youth development and program internationality may also be discussed.

Marketing Your Agency
In today’s competitive environment, it’s important to understand who your market is and how much of it you can serve – a means to effectively design a facility or program for the appropriate capacity. Designed with a hands-on approach this session provides the ideas for development of a dynamic marketing mix for their agency.

Outcome Based Mangement.
Recreation, park and community development programs and services need to be planned and delivered strategically to ensure they are aligned and relevant for your community or agency. Community needs, priorities, policies, the National Recreation Framework, trends and known products and benefits are all a part of an outcome-based management processes that maximize the value of the agency as a community investment will be the focus of this session.
